Takeaways from VDI Automation 2024

2024-07-05

Last week, we had the great pleasure to pitch AIOS at the 2024 VDI Automation congress in Baden-Baden.

We were invited to take part in the event's pitch competition alongside four prospering startups (ANTICIPATE, assemblean, PLYTEQ, red cable robots) and presented our view on the challenges of computer vision in industrial applications.

Congratulations to Alexander Pöhler from assemblean for convincing the jury consisting of Dr.-Ing. Dagmar Dirzus, Oliver Matyschik und Christian Els and taking home the pitch competition. To see assembleans's vision, willpower and capability condensed in their six minutes presentation was inspiring and instructive. We learned plenty by putting ourselves out there next to our fellow contestants and are looking forward to incorporating these new insights into our development.

Next to connecting to the other pitch participants as well as our great booth neighbors at the VDI Future Zone (sentic, Tensor AI Solutions, Inline Process Solutions, plusmeta) we also had the chance to extend our knowledge on current topics of industrial AI applications such as Asset Administration Shells and Explainable AI. We spoke to several conference guests about their challenges in computer vision, ranging from quality assurance to process chain maintenance. These conversations once again revealed that getting computer vision solutions production ready often is a huge challenge in the face of industrial requirements.

Overall, VDI Automation was a great event for us with lots of lessons learned and interesting conversations. We are hoping to see you again next year in Baden-Baden!
